Moving right along with these wonderful entries…tomorrow (Monday) is supposedly the day that they break ground on our lot. I wanted to share a few thoughts regarding the preparation of this journey. Buying a house is a BIG DEAL! Especially as first home buyers (like us). I am super appreciative (in hinds sight), of the delays that occurred during our decision making process. It helped me, us, come to even better conclusions on everything…even down to the lot. Having decided, last minute, to move 4 lots over from the lot that we had talked of for months was actually a fantastic idea!
I remember the moments that we spent with our wonderful realtor, Sean Moore, discussing the options for us regarding purchasing a home. Building wasn’t really even on the forefront. Then came the day that we lined up a few, 7, homes to walk through. Mainly to get a sense of what is currently out there. Sean reminded us that new homes were put onto the market constantly and that we would know the house as soon as we walked into it. Fortunately for us this one fit us as if a bride had lined up a train of dresses and basically the first one was perfect! We walked through one before and then when we walked through the door of this particular layout it took our breaths away as we looked at each other and nodded. I was so thankful that I shared that experience with my husband at the same time. After that it was easy to compare everything else to that first experience…the first dress won.
Now I know that people change and after this first experience, years into our purchase, I will have learned so many things. Our ideas of our next home, many years later, will be different. So I am not saying that this first home is the end all. But I do know when I experience what I experienced during my first introduction to this home that I was in love. I’m fortunate to have a very visually forward imagination. My mind foresaw us living there upon entry. The layout fit our current need for space, my desire not to have much more to clean yet a little more space than we currently have, and a good Feng Shui about it.
So now that the Layout and Lot haven been chosen and D-day (dig-day) is quickly approaching here is a short list of what we’ve already had to choose or have chosen regardless of the timeline:
- flooring
- kitchen cabinets
- windows
- exterior doors
- siding & colors
- trim
There are many, many more cosmetic decisions to be made but these, I believe, are good to go for now! And with these decisions we are able to narrow down a little bit better what the interior colors will look like. Although I have a pretty good idea right now what direction we are heading with the colors, it’s yet another huge decision. To step away from the traditional white and tan colors that you see in many rental and spec homes is fun but is taking some research. Considering what are good colors for rooms that transition into other rooms and what colors will work with the design and light of the room. As we move forward with these decisions I will introduce you to a wonderful connection that I have who will be helping me make those solid room color choices.
Here is a VERY cool site that I stumbled upon this evening, design-seeds.com. Make sure to visit it and play around with their color palette options. My artsy mind was going crazy with all of the beautiful color options and combinations.

I would like to give an introductory shout out to our builders, Beacon Street Properties. They have been extremely wonderful in assisting and educating us with the process of building our home. We already love them! So hold onto your hard hats everyone…it’s GO time for the WhiteHouse!
